Mik was a PhD student in the Linguistics Program writing her dissertation on the communication strategies used by nurses and speech-language pathologists when caring for patients with aphasia. Her dissertation won the Holistic Science Prize from the OSU College Arts & Sciences, sponsored by the Math department. She graduated in 2021 and began teaching at Midwestern State in Texas. She continues to collaborate with OSU faculty and is leading a project to develop and test a training program that will familiarize listeners with dysarthic speech to help them better understand speakers with diseases like Parkinson's and cerebral palsy.
