Tess Meyer5/8/2022 Graduate Teaching & Research Assistant 2021-2022 Tess was a CDIS master's student and teaching assistant. In Fall 2021 and Spring 2022, she was the Thematic Analysis Supervisor for the Deaf Experience, Deaf Expression (DXDX) project. Presentations (*student author):
"For three years as an undergraduate student, I provided in-home therapy for a 28-year old who has autism. Building a relationship with his family was one of the most rewarding parts of the job. I was able to get an inside glance into the decisions they've made from the time of diagnosis at 4 years old, to now, as they work to further his opportunities of learning and growing as an (almost) 30-year old. They shared about the trials of deciding when/where/if to send him to school, choosing various in-home therapists, and finding impactful community involvement. The amount of choices they have had to make for his well-being are too many to count--it gave me an incredible appreciation for all that goes on behind closed doors in families like this. Some decisions go well, and some don't, and they were always very honest with me about this. Hearing, understanding, and appreciating the family experience are what draw me so readily to this project." Comments are closed.
