December Graduations

12/15/2024

Three of my lab students and about 20 other majors graduated this fall. DXDX Project Social Media Manager Kallie Chapman will be going on to grad school in counseling next year, and Lead Recruiter and Scheduler Sophie Ernst and annotator Sarah Albert will go on to grad school in speech-language pathology next year. They'll get a well-deserved break while waiting for admissions news this spring!

Awards!

4/18/2024

Several of my students won awards this year. Chelsea Olender was named department Outstanding Senior, and she earned a scholarship to attend Texas Christian for grad school next year. Jordan Bilger gave an amazing speech at OSU's first Three-Minute Thesis competition for Undergrads. Marleigh Smith was named an OSU Senior of Significance. I gave teal cords to six graduating seniors who have made substantial long-term contributions to my lab. Other labs had big numbers this year too -- we gave out 20 total cords for theses and research contributions!

Students Mady Hedge, Lynnen Robinson, Mattie Grace Ferguson, Lenna Avance  and Chelsea Olender from my DXDX project presented a poster OSU's Undergraduate Research Symposium, and Megan Damico presented hers at the Freshman Research Scholars Symposium last week. Chelsea also defended her honors thesis poster, and Mady also helped present a poster from the Phon Farm lab.

DUE

7/3/2023

I will soon be my department's first Director of Undergraduate Education. This will be a new step into administrative duties, and I hope it will allow us to take a big-picture view of our curriculum and student needs.

Tenure!

7/1/2023

It's official: I'm now a tenured associate professor!

Several students from my lab graduated this weekend, and many have received awards this year. I gave five cords for undergrad contributions to research, and two of my students were named Top 10 Seniors in the college, with each also receiving departmental awards. Four were offered full funding to our graduate program, and three accepted, with the fourth headed to another university. See more about them on the Lab Members page.

Graduation

5/6/2022

My second master's student, Molly Landers, completed her thesis and graduated today! Her thesis examined rootedness, or attachment to hometown, as an explanatory factor for variation in back pre-lateral vowel mergers. She is one of two in her class -- a first in departmental memory -- to be going on for a PhD. She'll be headed to Michigan State to study fluency this fall.

Outstanding Junior & McNair Scholar

4/4/2022

Two students on my DXDX project have received prestigious awards! Bailey Smith was named a College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Junior, and Mary Vang was accepted to the McNair Scholars program. They have both been active in multiple aspects of the project, getting experience with all stages of research. The McNair program includes an intensive summer institute where Mary will draft a lit review and methods proposal for an honors thesis, as well as attend conferences and prepare for applying to grad schools. Both plan to graduate next year.
