The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) convention was held in Seattle this year. Two of my grad lab students, Bailey Smith and Athena Kirby, presented posters on their theses. They also attended a dinner in honor of award recipients including our own professor John Tetnowski, who received the Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Recent Clinical Achievement. 

OSU hosted OSHA this year, the Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association meeting. We had several student and faculty present posters. From my lab, senior Mady Hedge presented on thematic analysis in the DXDX Project, and Bailey Smith and Athena Kirby presented on their master's theses. 

Several of my students won awards this year. Chelsea Olender was named department Outstanding Senior, and she earned a scholarship to attend Texas Christian for grad school next year. Jordan Bilger gave an amazing speech at OSU's first Three-Minute Thesis competition for Undergrads. Marleigh Smith was named an OSU Senior of Significance. I gave teal cords to six graduating seniors who have made substantial long-term contributions to my lab. Other labs had big numbers this year too -- we gave out 20 total cords for theses and research contributions!

Students Mady Hedge, Lynnen Robinson, Mattie Grace Ferguson, Lenna Avance  and Chelsea Olender from my DXDX project presented a poster OSU's Undergraduate Research Symposium, and Megan Damico presented hers at the Freshman Research Scholars Symposium last week. Chelsea also defended her honors thesis poster, and Mady also helped present a poster from the Phon Farm lab. 

Went to the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association convention for the first time. Three students (Bailey Smith, Grace Adams, Athena Kirby) presented three posters with me and two other professors, John Tetnowski and Tori Courouleau. It was in Ft. Worth, so we took the train from OKC!

Went to Queens College for NWAV 51 (New Ways of Analyzing Variation - not so new at 51!).  Now-master's student Athena Kirby and I gave a talk showing that the LGBTQ+ listeners in our study were better able to separate perceived vocal gender from conceptual word gender compared to cishet listeners. There were lots of other talks and posters involving gender beyond the binary, with rooms full of very engaged students. Got to see some old friends -- and tourist a bit in Manhattan, too.
